Rich creamy sweet yogurt made of thick yogurt, condensed milk and jaggery. It is commonly eaten in states of West Bengal and Odisha in India.
The name of this heavenly delicious delicacy is as sweet as the delicacy itself; mishti means sweet and doi means yogurt.
1 cup greek yogurt
1 cup unsweetened evaporated milk
1 cup unsweetened condensed milk
1 cup jaggery
1 tablespoon rosewater
Put the jaggery in a microwavable bowl and heat it in the microwave for 5-6 minutes or till it melts completely, giving it a stir after every minute.
Combine all the ingredients along with melted jaggery in an electric blender and blend for 2-3 minutes.
Pour the mixture into an oven-proof dish, cover with a foil and put it in a pre-heated oven at 150º C for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, turn off the oven but leave the doi inside the oven for 6-8 hours (do not open the oven door in between). It's best to prepare it in the evening so that the doi can be left undisturbed in the oven overnight.
Take the doi out of the oven after 6-8 hours and chill it in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours.
Serve in earthen bowls.
You can garnish with pistachio and almond flakes; I prefer to enjoy it’s authentic taste without any add-ons.
The earthen bowl renders an earthy aroma and gives a traditional feel but don’t worry if you haven’t got it at home, just serve it in any dessert bowl and it will still taste divine.
