Lemon and Chilli Pickle

Piquant and spicy pickle which can enhance the taste of any meal. The red chillies not only impart a beautiful contrasting colour to the pickle but they also balance the sour taste of lemons.

  1. 8-10 lemons
  2. 10 -12 fresh red chillies
  3. 1/2 cup mustard oil
  4. 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  5. 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  6. 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida
  7. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  8. 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  9. 1 tablespoon salt or to taste


  1. Cut the lemons into quarters and deseed them.
  2. Heat oil in a large pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add fenugreek seeds, sauté for 30 seconds and then add asafoetida. Add the red chillies and sauté for a minute. Add the lemon pieces, salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Turn off the heat and let it cool. Once cooled, transfer it into a glass jar.
