Ingredients

  1. 2 tablespoons pomegranate seeds
  2. 1/2 cup cubed pineapple
  3. 2 tablespoons sliced black grapes
  4. 2 cups whisked yogurt (chilled)
  5. 1/4 teaspoon black salt/ sendha namak
  6. 1/4 teaspoon roasted cumin powder

Method

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Keep it in the refrigerator till you are ready to serve.

Recipe Tips:

  • Use sendha namak instead of black salt if you are preparing to consume it during fasting.
  • If you want your fruit raita to be sweet, you can prepare it without adding black salt/ sendha namak. The natural sweetness of fruits should be enough but if the pineapple is not so ripe, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of sugar to the raita. I personally like the combination of sweet & savoury taste making this raita unique and delicious.
  • To make roasted cumin powder, roast cumin seeds in a flat pan on medium heat till they turn brown in colour (while stirring constantly). Turn off the heat and take them out in a dish. Cumin seeds get roasted very quickly so be careful not to burn them. Let the roasted cumin seeds cool to room temperature. Grind them in a spice grinder or in a mortar and pestle. Store in an air-tight jar and use as required.
