Mushroom Toast

Toasted bread slices topped with mushrooms in creamy white sauce.

Time: 15 minutes

  1. 6 bread slices
  2. 2 cups chopped mushrooms
  3. 1 tablespoon oil
  4. 1 teaspoon butter
  5. 1 tablespoon plain flour
  6. 1 cup milk
  7. 1 teaspoon red chilli flakes
  8. Crushed black pepper to taste
  9. Salt to taste


  1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan. Add the chopped mushrooms and salt. Saute for 2-3 minutes or till all the moisture gets evaporated and the mushrooms turn light golden brown from the edges. Season them with little salt and pepper. Keep them aside.
  2. Heat 1 teaspoon butter in a pan and add 1 tablespoon plain flour to it. Saute for about 30 seconds and add 1 cup milk to it. Keep cooking on low heat (while stirring continuously to avoid any lumps) till it reduces to a thick sauce. Add a pinch of salt & mix well.
  3. Add mushrooms to this sauce and mix well.
  4. Toast the bread slices till crisp. Top each toast generously with the mushroom mixture. Sprinkle red chilli flakes according to your taste.
  5. Cut each toast into 4 triangular pieces and serve hot.
