Oats & Puffed Rice Mixture

Healthy teatime snack packed with the health benefits of oats & good fats from pumpkin seeds & nuts. This guilt-free snack can be prepared in just 15 minutes and stored in a jar for 2-3 weeks.

  1. 2 cups thick puffed rice
  2. 1 cup Instant Oats
  3. 3/4 cup raw peanuts
  4. 1/2 cup roasted split chana
  5. 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
  6. 1/2 cup cashew nuts (cut into halves)
  7. 2 tablespoons oil
  8. 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  9. 1/2 teaspoon crushed garlic
  10. 1 green chilli, roughly chopped
  11. 8-10 curry leaves
  12. 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
  13. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  14. Salt to taste


  1. Heat a deep non-stick pan and dry roast the oats on medium heat for 2-3 minutes, while stirring continuously or till crisp. Take them out in a plate and keep aside. Repeat the same process for puffed rice.
  2. Heat oil in the same pan, add the mustard seeds, curry leaves, garlic, green chillies, turmeric and asafoetida. Saute for about a minute or till the garlic and green chillies become crispy and golden brown.
  3. Add the peanuts, pumpkin seeds and cashew nuts. Mix well and roast on medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the roasted chana dal and saute for about 30 seconds.
  4. Add salt, roasted oats and puffed rice. Mix well and cook on medium heat for 1-2 minutes while stirring continuously. Keep aside and let it cool completely.
  5. Once cooled, store in an air-tight container.

Recipe Tips: 

  • Please let the mixture cool completely before storing it in a jar.
  • Please keep in mind that the nuts will become crunchy only after the mixture has cooled down completely.
