Bombay Sandwich

Delicious sandwich commonly sold as a street food in Bombay from where it derived it’s name. A perfect fusion of Indian and western flavours that will leave you asking for more!

Ingredients

  1. 4 brown bread slices
  2. 2 medium-sized boiled potatoes (peeled & sliced)
  3. 1 cucumber, cut into round slices
  4. 1 tomato, cut into round slices
  5. 2 teaspoons butter
  6. 2 tablespoons green chutney
  7. 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  8. 11/2 teaspoon chaat masala
  9. 1/2 teaspoon black salt
  10. 1 tablespoon nylon sev (fine sev)
  11. Salt to taste

Method

  1. Apply butter on 2 bread slices using a butter knife. Place them in a dish with the butter side up.
  2. Place 6 cucumber slices on each of the buttered bread slices. Sprinkle some salt on the cucumber slices.
  3. Place 4 tomato slices on top of cucumber slices on each bread slice. Sprinkle some black salt on the tomato slices.
  4. Place 6 boiled potato slices on top of sliced tomatoes on each bread slice. Sprinkle some chaat masala on the potato slices.
  5. Apply green chutney on the other 2 bread slices. Place them over the bread slices topped with cucumber, tomato and potato slices with chutney side facing downwards.
  6. Apply little butter on the outer sides of each sandwich. Grill the sandwiches in an electric sandwich grill or on a grill pan till they are golden-brown and crisp from both sides.
  7. Apply little tomato ketchup and green chutney on top of each grilled sandwich.
  8. Sprinkle some sev and serve immediately with tea.
